Class description

Are you new to the world of gourds? Are you wondering where you should start? Do you feel there has to be a better and easier way to clean, and design on gourds? Would you like to have more ideas of what products to use and where to purchase them? This class will help to answer these questions and much more.

This fun, high energy class is your opportunity to get the information and hands-on experience you'll need for your adventure into the fun world of gourding--experience with wood burning, coloring and carving highlight accents around your designs. You'll be surprised with what you can do. And best of all, you'll get to make your own little vase, like the photo above, to take home with you!

You'll also have hands on experience with gourd carving, wood burning and cleaning the inside of a gourd.

I will provide a small class-ready gourd, alcohol inks, brushes, carvers, wood burners, sealer, sand paper, cotton rounds, gloves and a tutorial handout.

Walk-ins will be accepted if the class is not full.

What you are asked to bring

  • A pencil and a good eraser
  • A school compass (for drawing circles).
  • Safety glasses (or your regular eyeglasses)
  • A dust mask
  • Optional: If you have your own wood burner and/or carver please bring, so you can get comfortable using your own equipment
  • Optional: A work apron or a big shirt to protect your clothing from dust and ink. (Nevada Gourd Society will have great work aprons for sale at the class check-in table or inside the Exhibit Hall.)

About the instructor

Pam is an accomplished artist who loves sharing her knowledge with others. Over the years she has narrowed her teaching focus primarily to wire-wrapped jewelry and gourd art creations. She has been teaching gourd art classes to beginners as well as seasoned gourders at the Silver State Art Festival since 2017. She particularly loves teaching gourd classes to those who are new to gourd art. She loves to see the look on a beginner's face when they cross the finish line and complete their first creation. Serving as Membership Officer, Pam is an active member of the Nevada Gourd Society. She is also an active member of the Pahrump Valley Gourd Patch and the American Gourd Society.
