Class description
In this class we will be discussing preparing the gourd for pyrography, placing the pattern on the gourd so it is eye pleasing and balanced and having it the suitable dimensions for the piece. After applying the pattern we will 'play' on a gourd shard using the three main wood burning tips-the skew (cutter), the writer (bent wire), and the shader. Now we will begin the pyrography and watch the pattern come to life. After the pattern in completed, colored pencils (Walnut Hollow or Prisma) will be used for added dimension and a finish coat applied. The opening for the clock will be cut with a key hole drill bit and the clock inserted. Stippling can be done in class, if you chose to do so and time allowing, or can be done at home.
I will provide: Gourd shards for practice, a tutorial, graphite, pattern and red pen, Liquin, top coat, and clock, and the key hole drill bit to use to cut the clock opening.
What you are asked to bring
Each student is asked to bring a gourd, cleaned and opened (if you want it opened) in the shape suitable for the pattern you choose to do (tall pattern is 6" tall and 5" wide, round pattern is 6" wide by 5" tall).
Note: If you cannot obtain a gourd as described, I can prepare a class-ready gourd for you, and you can pay me $10.00 when you arrive to class. You must let me know before August 1st to give me time to prepare your gourd.

About the instructor
I began with gourds in 2002 after being introduced to them be a grade school friend. Now my main art form, along with wood turning, and sewing, it has become my main interest. I especially enjoy pyrography and carving. I now teach pyrography at the local Woodcraft store and find it most rewarding.
