Class description
This pretty, little vase is full of learning opportunities! You will leave this class with a lovely vase AND lots of design ideas for future projects.
I will guide you through designing your gourd into 4 distinct areas. Learn my tips for flawlessly applying gold leaf either variegated or one color, your choice. You will learn how to remove the gourd skin easily while beveling the edge and smoothing out the meat of the gourd. I will teach my technique to carve a beautiful fringe into your design.

I will supply:
A small class-ready gourd, Alcohol inks/Acrylic paint, Abranet sandpaper, Formula 49, Cotton rounds, Q-tips, Micro brushes, Sponge brushes, Paint pallet, and Sealer.

I will also have some burrs available for sale (please come early to check them out).

What you are required to bring
1. A high speed rotary tool (like Dremel or Pro Carver) with all of your bits. A Flex Shaft accessory is recommended if you are using a Dremel tool.
Note: A battery rotary tool is not powerful enough for gourd carving.
2. Wood burner (an inexpensive craft wood burner will be fine for this class).
3. Large 1/2" drum sanding burr, 60 or 80 grit
4. Cone shape diamond burr (dovetail or inverted cone)
5. Diamond coated needle burr or filigree burr
6. Wheel burr, 6mm
7. Angle paint brush
8. Riffler files, sanding sticks or assorted diamond burrs--whatever you have.
9. Heat gun
10. Optional: A "gourd scribe", if you have one (used to draw a straight circle around a gourd).
11. Pencil and eraser
12. Apron to protect your clothes
13. Gloves, latex or similar
14. A Dust Mask is required for carving classes
15. Eye glasses or safety glasses are required for carving classes

I will have burrs available for sale. Please bring your burr/bit case.

About the instructor
Pam is an accomplished artist who loves sharing her knowledge with others. Over the years she has narrowed her teaching focus primarily to wire-wrapped jewelry and gourd art creations. She has been teaching gourd art classes to beginners as well as seasoned gourders at the Silver State Art Festival since 2017. She particularly loves teaching gourd classes to those who are new to gourd art. She loves to see the look on a beginner's face when they cross the finish line and complete their first creation. Serving as Membership Officer, Pam is an active member of the Nevada Gourd Society. She is also an active member of the Pahrump Valley Gourd Patch and the American Gourd Society
