About NGS

The Nevada Gourd Society (NGS) is a non profit organization dedicated to providing education and information regarding Lagenaria (hard shell) gourd growing, curing and crafting.

At this time, we have two gourd patches in Nevada. Kristy Dial is the director of the Great Basin Gourd Patch in the Reno area, and Patti Jo Newsom is the director of the Pahrump Valley Gourd Patch in southern Nevada. Each gourd patch has regular monthly meetings in which members share knowledge on growing and crafting gourds. Our goal is to have many gourd patches located throughout our great state of Nevada. Click here to view the Nevada gourd patch map.

Membership

We encourage you to join the Nevada Gourd Society. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned gourd artist, the Nevada Gourd Society has much to offer.

As membership increases, and the number of gourd patches increases, our goal is to provide one or two statewide gatherings per year in the form of workshops and festivals.

You're interested in joining now? See how to join.

You're not sure if you want to join? Check us out first, and join later. Plan to visit a gourd patch near you. Contact us to find out when the next gathering will be. And while you are at it, get on our email list to keep you updated on upcoming events!

The NGS Traveling Gourd

The photo to the left represents a collaboration of the two Nevada Gourd Society gourd patches for the NGS Traveling Gourd. The theme was "Everything Nevada" and each artist was assigned a space to show off their own renditions of the beauty of our wonderful state. This gourd was one of the prizes at the Silver State Art Festival. Congratulations to Nancy MacGillivary on winning this beautiful gourd!

Interested in Starting Up a Gourd Patch in Your Area?

The goal of the Nevada Gourd Society is to introduce as many people to the wonderful world of gourds as we can. With that in mind, we'd like to see gourd patches all over the state of Nevada. Only six (6) NGS members are required to start a gourd patch.

If you are interested in starting up a gourd patch in your area, contact us with your name and phone number. Kristy or Patti Jo will get back with you soon to discuss.

Donations
