Class description
In this class you will learn a fun way to make a bold, elegant statement using metallic embellishments. We will create a textured, metallic rim around the top and inlay a metallic focal piece in the front. We will add a touch of color using translucent ink dyes. To delineate our design, we will inlay leather cord.
This class is for all levels of gourders, but students are required to have basic knowledge of how to use their rotary tool (carver) and how to change bits. Most will finish but based on expertise, the student might not complete the project. Any who do not finish will be given the supplies required to finish. In addition, everyone will be given a detailed set of instructions for this project.
I will supply a class-ready gourd, metallic accents, dyes, paints, glues and leather cording required. I will have a variety of metallic focal pieces for students to choose from, including the ones pictured. I will supply everything needed for the project with the exception of what I have listed below for each student to bring.
What you are required to bring
- A rotary tool (like dremel or Gourd Master carver) with your carving bits including a sanding drum and a cutting wheel bit. I will have bits you can buy if yours don't work for the project.
- Your paint brushes, including a large soft-bristle brush and a smaller detail brush.
- A sharp X-acto knife
- A dust mask
- Eye protection (safety glasses or glasses that you normally wear)
